Who is ringing? With a camera at the door you can see on your phone, even when you are out. Many people find that reassuring. But there are a few things you should know.
Watch what is in the picture
Only film your own house and property. The street, the pavement and your neighbours' property must stay out of the picture. The data protection authority CNPD says clearly: a private person may not set up a camera that films public space.
What to do
- Set the angle so that only your entrance can be seen.
- Use the setting that blanks out areas of the picture, if your camera has one.
- Talk to your neighbours, it avoids trouble.
- If in doubt, ask the CNPD directly.
Setting it up safely
- Change the camera's password.
- Install updates.
- Do not give strangers access to the app.
This is not legal advice. For information, contact the CNPD. We help you with the technology.
RememberYour camera looks at your property, not your neighbours'.
